Goody’s Headache Relief Shot 500
Martinsville Speedway, Martinsville, Va.
Brett Moffitt | No. 34 Dockside Logistics Ford
“Martinsville is physically demanding. I’d say Bristol and Dover are a little more challenging just because of the g-forces, but Martinsville can be a long race. You really use a lot of brakes. The bottom of your foot actually does get sore by the end of the race. But it’s so tight, you’ve really got to fight for every position. You’ve got to race your butt off on the restarts and try to get every position you can because it’s really hard to pass there.”
JUST THE FACTS: Sunday’s race will be Moffitt’s second Sprint Cup start at Martinsville Speedway… He has one other appearance at the .526-mile oval — a win in the K&N Pro Series East in 2010 … The Dockside Logistics colors return to the No. 34 Ford for Sunday’s race … Moffitt will be at the Ford Performance stage Sunday at 10:30 a.m. for Q&A with fans.
Cole Whitt | No. 35 MDS Transport Ford
“At Martinsville, how your day is going depends on your car. It’s a small track. If you’re struggling there, there’s nowhere to hide. You could be trying to just get your car better and you’ve got guys beating on your left-rear corner and you’re getting shoved into the second groove. That makes for a long day. But when your car’s good and you’re the guy that can shove people a little and get underneath them, then that’s one of the most fun days you have.”
JUST THE FACTS: Whitt has four Sprint Cup career starts at Martinsville Speedway … His top finish at NASCAR’s oldest track is 18th (2014) … MDS Transport returns to the No. 35 as primary sponsor for Sunday’s race.
David Gilliland | No. 38 Jerry Cook Hall of Fame Tribute Ford
“This is a special race for us because we get to pay tribute to a NASCAR Hall of Fame inductee. Jerry Cook was a six-time Modified champ, and he’ll get inducted with the Class of 2016 coming up in January. But this weekend at Martinsville, we’re going to have a replica paint scheme like one of his old Modifieds. His daughter sent us a bunch of personal photos so we could make sure we got the design just right. He’ll be there Sunday to see it, so we hope he likes it.”
JUST THE FACTS: Gilliland has 18 Sprint Cup starts at Martinsville Speedway … His best finish at the track known as the “Paperclip” is 19th (2010) … The No. 38 will pay tribute to 2016 NASCAR Hall of Fame inductee and six-time NASCAR Modified champ Jerry Cook with a replica paint scheme … Gilliland will be at the speedway’s pre-race stage with Cook on Sunday at 10:30 a.m. for a question-and-answer session.
