Following a wreck at Martinsville, Joey Logano entered this weekend needing a win to transfer to the final round of the Chase for the Championship either at Texas Motor Speedway or Phoenix International Speedway. He didn’t get the win that he needed at Texas Motor Speedway.
Just 10 laps into the event, Logano would blow a left rear tire and go around, causing heavy damage to the rear of his No. 22 AAA Insurance Ford Fusion. Logano commented afterwards that there was no indications prior to the tire going flat that he had a problem.
“The left rear tire came apart and shredded everything inside the car,” he added. “It did a lot more damage than just the tire blowing apart.”
He would finish the race in the 40th spot after repairs in the garage.
“It was just part of it. Sometimes you just have to roll with the punches,” he commented. “We will be ready for Phoenix. This team is strong. We didn’t take any wind out of our sails today and we showed how fast this thing was even after we crashed. I am very proud of our team.”
After winning all three races of the second round of the Chase, Logano will need a win at Phoenix International Speedway to earn his ticket as it is not possible to make up the more than 60 points that he is behind the cutline.
“I feel great about our chances at Phoenix,” he said. “It has been a great race track for us in the past. I felt like this track was a great one for us as well. It is unfortunate that we finished how we did.”
