CHASTAIN STRONG AT PHOENIX
AVONDALE, Ariz. – Ross Chastain has a short but notable history at Phoenix International Raceway.
Chastain has raced in only three NASCAR major-series races at the one-mile track. But Phoenix hosted one of the highlights of Chastain’s young career, as he won the pole and finished second there in a Camping World Truck Series race in 2013.
“That will always be a big day for me,” Chastain said. “But now we’re looking at the Xfinity Series and trying to move the success from the Truck series to that at Phoenix. I’m looking forward to that this week.”
Chastain finished 27th in the spring Xfinity race at PIR.
Chastain enters the race – the next-to-last event of the Xfinity season – 15th in points in his rookie season.
Friday’s schedule has practice set for 3:30 p.m. (ET) and 5 p.m. Qualifying is scheduled at 12:45 p.m. Saturday, with the race to follow at 4.
