Earlier this week, Andy Kamrath announced that he would make his return to the Late Model division, confirming that he’d run at least four APC Auto Parts United Late Model of Ontario Tour Presented by Grisdales Race Products races.
“I don’t think there’s a driver in Ontario right now that wouldn’t jump at the chance to be a part of the APC Series,” Kamrath told Spencer Lewis, per the press release posted on Inside Track’s website. “It seems like all the best teams in the province are either on the tour – or trying to find a way to get to the tour. I’ve been dying to be a part of it since the first race at Sunset last season”
The news comes forth of a deal put together between Kamrath and London Recreational Racing teammate Shawn Chenoweth, with Kamrath renting a car from Chenoweth’s stable. The effort will see support from both London Recreational Racing and AM Roofing.
“There’s no chance I would have ever sat back in a Late Model without a ton of support from the people around me,” he said. “AM Roofing put a lot into my Ltd. Late Model program when I was running fulltime, and they told me that if I ever wanted to get back at it they would be there to support me. Mike has been a huge supporter of our program for a few years – and this will allow us to be an even bigger part of his team moving into 2016. It’s an honour to be a part of London Recreational Racing, and I can’t thank Mike enough for the faith that he’s shown in me. Hopefully we can get him a few extra Pro Late [Model] wins this season.
“Shawn and I have wanted to work together for a while now, and we hadn’t been able to put something together. Once he made the decision to expand his Pro Late Model fleet, it seemed like the perfect fit. I couldn’t think of a better teammate to hit these tour events with.”
For London Recreational Racing team leader Mike Schmidt, bringing Kamrath on board is the perfect scenario in allowing him to create a one-two-three punch for LRR on the APC tour with Kamrath, Chenoweth and Andrew Gresel all behind the wheel of LRR backed entries.
“Each of these APC Series events have become as prestigious and coveted as any Crown Jewel, so we’re ecstatic to have a chance at increasing our odds of winning as many of these races as possible,” Schmidt added. “Andy has put together some pretty impressive numbers in a Mini Stock – but I seem to remember him being awfully successful in a Late Model a few years ago. We’ll be ready to help him shake the rust off. And, once he does, I think he’s going to surprise some people.”
The current schedule has Kamrath running a trio of APC events at both Sunset Speedway and Sauble Speedway, as well as the Autumn Colours Classic at Peterborough Speedway in October.
The Instant Classic has spent the past two seasons in the Mini Stock ranks, raking up wins across the province, including the 2014 Autumn Colours Classic and three feature victories at Sunset Speedway this past season. Prior to that, though, Kamrath ran late models across the province, finishing in the top-five in points at both Sunset and Sauble.
