On Monday, December 21, OSCAAR announced the formation of the OSCAAR Pro Midget Series, which will debut next season. The series is meant to showcase similar cars to those seen in the OSCAAR Midget Series, but these cars will have a special set of rules.
“We’re not trying to change what’s there, we’re trying to give drivers another option. A simple spec, non-adjustable and non-re-buildable shock,” Charles Priestley, the Pro Midget series developer, said per the press release.
The new rules for the series will include a spec wing, specific engine rules, spec suspension system and additional safety built into the cars. OSCAAR plans to have the full ruleook and series information on the series site at http://www.oscaar.ca at a later date.
For their debut season, they will compete in 12 events schedule across the province of Ontario, operating on a separate schedule than that of the OSCAAR Midgets with their own point standings and 25 lap features.
“The Pro Midget Series is being built on two main fronts. It will create a fast, economical spec racing series that will appeal to racers both young and old with various degrees of racing experience,” OSCAAR Racing president Dave Gainforth said. “OSCAAR has a proven background to develop a new series correctly. The promoters in Ontario support this idea 100 per cent and look forward to hosting both the OSCAAR Pro Midget and OSCAAR Midget series in 2016.”
The new series will kick off at Peterborough Speedway on May 28.
