GUELPH, Ontario —- Black Magic Racing is proud to announce that Tim Tolton will endeavor on a busy schedule in 2016, consisting of both the full Lucas Oil Sportsman Series tour, as well as running a mini stock regularly at Full Throttle Motor Speedway.
After finishing seventh in points last year with some strong runs in the books, Tolton will return to the LOSC Series once again in 2016 in hopes of continued success.
“The 2015 season wasn’t great but could have been worse too,” he said. “We finished seventh in the Sportsman Series points but had too many DNFs and left lots of room for improvement.”
The new season brings a change, though, as he will be splitting the schedule with son Bobby Tolton.
“2016 could be a challenging season for us in the Lucas Oil Sportsman Cup series,” Tolton admitted. “We will have a new car to work with, and Bobby will be co-driver in a car that is very different from anything he has raced before.”
The plan is to have Bobby run half of the races, with Tim crew cheifing for those events, while Bobby crew chiefs for the races that Tim runs.
“We work well together and hope that retiring the old car which we nicknamed ‘nightmare’ will allow us to have a more successful season,” he continued.
When they’re not running the LOSC car, Tim Tolton will be behind the wheel of his familiar mini stock, running the Full Throttle Motor Speedway schedule, as well as select invitational events.
“The mini stock will remain a spare time effort and will be just for fun,” he said. “That doesn’t mean that we won’t do the best that we can with it, it just won’t be our top priority.”
When Tim is running the LOSC car, he has announced that Tom Houghton will be behind the wheel of the mini stock at FTMS. A veteran in racing, Houghton comes off of a series of successful campaigns with the Outlaw Modified Series, highlighted by some feature victories.
“Tom Houghton was looking for a car to drive in 2016 and with Bobby having his own mini stock and traveling to the sportsman races with me, I was in need of a driver for the conflicting dates,” Tolton said. “So I contacted him to see if he would be interested and after meeting with him and discussing the details, he has been scheduled to run five or six events in our Nissan 240SX mini stock.”
Black Magic Racing is hoping for another successful year with the mini stock. Last season, Tim split driving duties with Bobby at Full Throttle Motor Speedway. Despite blowing the motor in the first event of the year, the team came back to finish second in points with some feature victories.
Now going into the new season looking at the program as a whole, Tolton stated he’s trying to not set his expectations that high as it’s much more rewarding to exceed rather than fail.
“Luck hasn’t really been our strong point so we will wait and see where we end up when the season is over,” he said.
