David Starr Finishes 18th in the PowerShares QQQ 300
The NASCAR XFINITY Series (NXS) season opener at Daytona International Speedway proved to be a roller coaster of sorts for David Starr. Practice sessions on Friday were successful for Starr, ending the second session at the top of the leader board in the No. 44 Zachry Camry. Saturday’s qualifying efforts placed the Texas native in 23rd position in the starting lineup for the PowerShares QQQ 300. By lap three of the 120 lap event, Starr had fallen back to 35th. He reported the Zachry Camry was hitting hard in the front. Crew Chief, Frank Kerr, called Starr to pit for adjustments. Soon thereafter another caution allowed Starr the opportunity to stay out and gain track position. The combination of a good call for solid adjustments paired with a timely caution afforded Starr the opportunity to advance through the field up to the eighth position. Under the next caution, Starr pitted and was tagged for speeding on pit road. NASCAR issued a pass through penalty cycling him back to 30th. As the race neared end, the No. 44 Zachry Camry was low on fuel and Starr coasted to pit road. Restarting at the rear of the field, Starr was determined to make up positions. He ultimately took the checkers concluding his 75th NXS race with an 18th place finish.
