After having a tire issue in the early laps, Timothy Peters would come back to score a top-five finish at Atlanta Motor Speedway
The driver of the No. 17 Red Horse Racing Toyota Tundra had a good run going in the early laps, but was forced down pit road for an unscheduled pit stop due to a tire issue. Returning to the speedway a lap down, Peters would catch a break when the caution clock expired as he was able to take the wave around to get back on the lead lap.
From there on, Peters would work his way back through the field, breaking into the top-five after chaos ensued with the leaders in front of him. He then held onto finish third.
“We think we had a Red Horse Tundra that could win this race,” he said. “We were able to catch the vibration with our right front cording on us. Had to come down to pit road. Shane (Huffman, crew chief) made great calls. The pit crew did awesome not only getting me back out to where we were only one lap down, but all race long they gained us spots, gained us spots, gained us spots. For the laps on our tires and to fight back through adversity, I’ll take it.”
For Peters, it marks a good rebound after finishing 15th at Daytona International Speedway last week due to a spin in the late laps. It also gives him some momentum heading into the break as the series now has three weeks off before racing at Martinsville Speedway.
There’s no doubting Peters’ confidence going into the paperclip as he has six top-fives and 13 top-10s in 20 previous starts at his home track.
