As part of the Inside Track Short Track Night of Champions presented by Stoneridge Insurance, the Delaware Speedway Champions were honored for their accomplishments.
Gary Adriaensen was honored as the Thunder Car Champion, stating it was a great battle all season long between him and Darrell Lake.
“Each week, I led the points for the first bit and through the second half, it started flipping back and forth,” he said. “I’d win, he’d win, I’d win, he’d win with the points. It came down to the last night and I got her.”
Rick Verberne was honored as the Truck Champion, stating it was an excellent season for him.
“We brought some new sponsors to the truck that really helped our program, and we just made a deal for this year so that’ll help us out and we’ll try again,” he added.
The Truck division is one that has expanded recently at Delaware, going from having eight trucks to 15 trucks on any given night.
“I left in ’07 and came back in ’13 and tried to rally some guys together to get some stuff back on the track and we’re up 15, 16 trucks every night,” Verberne expressed. “We have some new trucks being built for this year so hopefully, we see close to 20.”
Jeremy Schindel was honored as the Bone Stock Champion, noting it was not an easy crown to bring home.
“It was a tough year, lot of great competition,” he commented. “But it was a great year and it’s great to be on stage with all these great guys from my track.”
As to whether he will move up in 2016, he says that will depend on funding.
Hayden Sim was honored as the Senior JCar Champion and says that he will be moving up to the truck division in 2016.
“We’re building it right now in the shop,” he stated. “I think we’re done with JCars for right now; we may run some more in the future. We’ll just see what happens.”
Natalie Cordell was honored as the Junior JCAR Champion, stating it was a competitive season.
“I think everybody that I raced against had a very good season,” she commented. “I had a really good season. I think I had seven consecutive top-three finishes. I think it was a really great season.”
