As part of the Inside Track Short Track Night of Champions presented by Stoneridge Insurance, a series of dirt track champions were honored for their accomplishments.
John Glifford was honored as the Brockville Street Stock Champion, and spoke about the difference he felt this year compared to last due to tire selection.
“I put a set of Hoosiers on this year as I ran street tires last year, and the grip was crazy with them,” he commented. “17 feature wins. Crazy grip with the tires.”
Jamie Truelove was honored as the Brockville Rookie Champion.
“I had a fast little car for me this year,” she said. “I had a lot of support. Going to do a bit more traveling this year and run some different tracks, try and get away from Brockville a bit and try some different stuff so it should be fun.”
Jean-Francois Page was honored as the Cornwall Mini Stock Champion, stating that he had a good season in his second year of competition. Page won the Rookie of the Year Award last year.
“This season was more fun – new sponsors, better car, and we did good,” he stated.
Jason Fontaine was honored as the Humberstone Street Stock Champion, and spoke of the track conditions due to the work done pre-season by track officials.
“They resurfaced the track at the beginning of the year and it was a little bumpy,” he commented. “But after running, within the first month of racing, the track was awesome. It was close racing. I always have fun racing; it was a blast. It’s one of the best classes out there and I’ll continue to do it.”
Fontaine added that he has considered moving up a division or two, but wants to stick with the street stocks as he really enjoys running these cars.
Mark Fawcett was honored as the Merrittville Speedway Hoosier Stock Champion, stating that it was a great season for him.
Joel Dick was honored as the South Buxton UMP Modified Champion, noting that qualifying is very important due to wanting to avoid the b-mains.
“You have to try and stay out of those and qualify fast during the heat races,” he commented. “Got to give a shout out to my crew guys over there. That’s the thing – it’s a team sport so gotta thank them.”
Jake Hooker was honored as the Sport Stock Champion, stating that it’s beneficial having Kirk Hook as his father as he offers a lot of advice.
“I wasn’t expecting it this year,” Hooker said of the success. “I wasn’t expecting to get a feature win this year and to get 10 is unbelievable. I’d like to thank all the sponsors.”
The youngster will be making the move up to the UMP Late Model Division in 2016.
