It’s no secret that Robin McLean will be busy in 2016 as he has a pair of brand new projects on the go for the upcoming season.
After having success in the Midget ranks, McLean is making the move to a Super Stock for the upcoming season.
“I guess late last year probably in September, I decided that I’d run a Super Stock at Sunset,” he told OnPitRoad.com. “I only live five minutes from the track. I was still going to run a midget schedule, actually a full-time midget schedule and a part-time super stock schedule.”
Besides the size of the car being a big difference, McLean notes another difference will be the contact between competitors with having fenders now.
“t’s going to be different for me,” he stated. “I have to thank Jeff Walt and J.R. Fitzpatrick; they’ve both been over to the shop a lot, helping me out with the car so that way when I get out there, I just have to drive it.”
On top of running the Super Stock at Sunset Speedway, McLean will be busy in helping run the new series that he has created with a couple others, known as the Outlaw Midgets.
“I think we’re going to have a really good year,” he stated. “We have great numbers with lots of support. Just looking forward to a really great year.”
McLean adds that the interesting thus far has been overwhelming with lost of positive support from drivers and the tracks involved. The series is set for an eight race schedule, featuring five dates at Sunset Speedway, a race at Sauble Speedway and a pair of races across the board at Holland Speedway.
“We contacted Tim Bennet at Holland Speedway about doing some races,” McLean commented. “We had some people whom had been interested about doing some races at Holland before in the past and they raved about how good the track was. I guess because of the ongoing thing between OSCAAR and the Outlaws, we kind of limited of where we could go racing. So when Holland came up, we jumped on it. Our guys wanted races and really for most of my drivers, it’s no different driving our place to Holland, to our place to Grand Bend.”
