After coming up five points shy of the winning the inaugural APC Auto Parts United Late Models of Ontario Tour presented by Grisdales Auto Parts Championship, Shawn Chenoweth will return to the series once again in 2016 in search of the championship.
“I just think we need to keep our nose down,” he stated on stage at the Motorama Custom Car and Motorsports Show. “We had some issues along the way, but we got everything right and got three in a row. We know that we can do it. If anything I can work on is qualifying. So we’ll see if we can lay down some strong laps and do a little better.”
Last year, Chenoweth was quick on a weekly basis scoring a pair of victories, though a pair of finishes outside of the top-12 would make all the difference.
Despite not winning the APC Championship, Chenoweth still had a killer season last year, including a dominating performance in the Autumn Colours Classic Pro Late Model feature where the ‘Mastedone’ led every single lap after starting on the pole.
“We always run good there and we won the APC race which gave us the pole,” he commented. “To start on the pole is huge there, and I knew that the bottom would be the place to be. We had a good enough car to stay up front so we could stay there. It means a lot and an exclamation point on the season.”
He also had success behind the wheel of his super stock, co-winning the Flamboro Speedway Championship with Brad Collison.
“The car was a rocket from day one,” he said. “It was great to put Brad in it as I couldn’t run the full year, and the way the track sets it up, two guys can do that and be successful. Brad was a good choice. I knew that he could win a bunch of features. Can’t thank all the guys that help us out – sponsors, everybody, Mike (Schmidt).”
Chenoweth will be running at Flamboro full-time once again in 2016, gunning for the late model championship. When asked whether he’d be part of the championship discussion at season’s end this year, he wasn’t one to mince words.
“I think the word that you’re looking for is ‘know’,” he stated. “I know that we’re going to be in the picture.”
