Irwindale, CA — Jesse Iwuji has finalized his racing plans for the 2016 season and boy will he be busy. The former NCAA Division 1 football player and 2010 U.S Naval Academy graduate will be racing in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series West as well as in the Meridian Speedway NAPA Big 5 Late Model Series, all the while helping to promote the K&N Pro Series West when it visits Meridian Speedway this September.
The 28-year old Iwuji will be driving the #36 Patriot Motorsports Group Chevrolet in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series West. Jesse experienced all the ups and downs of Stockcar racing in his rookie 2015 year but definitely had his promising moments with a P8 start in a 20 car field for late models and a best finish of 13th. During this winter, between heat races and main events, as a rookie on dirt he competed in 34 dirt oval track races where his best A-Main event finish was 5th place in Winged 500cc Outlaw Karts!
When asked about what he hopes to accomplish in the K&N West series this season Jesse says, “I look forward to maximizing our equipment to the best of our ability every time we step on the track and continuing to learn from the talented drivers we compete against.”
The active duty U.S Naval Officer will call the NAPA Big 5 Late Model Series at Meridian Speedway his home when he is not out with the K&N Pro Series West. Jesse will also be keeping his #36 for this series as well. When not in his stock car, Iwuji also looks forward to racing his #07 Winged 500cc Outlaw Kart at a variety of different dirt tracks this summer.
Off track Iwuji will continue to help build and support the Patriot Motorsports Group based out of Eagle, Idaho. Patriot Motorsports Group helps support veterans both active and non-active duty via the multiple charities they support such as “208 Cares” which builds adaptive homes for Idaho veterans and “Phoenix Patriot Foundation” whose primary mission is to support wounded veterans through a variety of services.
This past weekend Jesse and his team at Patriot Motorsports Group flew a young terminal cancer patient, 4 year old Darrian Nordstrom, and his parents up to Boise, ID where they gave him a NASCAR experience he’ll never forget.
