After posting top-five times in both of the first two practices, Cole Custer would lead the final practice for the Alpha Energy Solutions 250 at Martinsville Speedway with a lap of 19.788 seconds.
Custer had one of the fastest trucks at Martinsville in the spring race last year before getting spun out late in the going by Matt Crafton.
John Hunter Nemechek, who picked up the win at Atlanta Motor Speedway, was second quickest, 0.038 seconds off of Custer. He has made it known that just because the win at Atlanta has him locked in the Chase, he isn’t done winning races this season. With a background in short track racing from his late model days, he could be someone to watch this weekend, especially since he finished second last fall at Martinsville.
Ben Rhodes, who led the second practice, was third quickest on the chart.
Rhodes knows how to get around Martinsville, as he finished eighth in his debut there last season. He also enters this weekend with some momentum after finishing sixth at Atlanta.
Kyle Busch was fourth quickest as he looks to score his first Grandfather clock, followed by GMS Racing’s Spencer Gallagher.
Daniel Suarez was sixth fastest, followed by Kaz Grala, William Byron, Kyle Larson and Johnny Sauter. Byron led the first practice.
The NASCAR Camping World Truck Series will qualify on Saturday morning, before racing later on in the afternoon.
