Youth was served today at Martinsville Speedway as Ben Rhodes claimed his first Camping World Truck Series pole in his seventh career start.
Rhodes blasted around the legendary .526 mile paper clip shaped oval in a time of (19.659 Seconds, 96.322 MPH) edging out Kyle Busch for the top spot on the scoring pylon.
“This feels good,” Rhodes said. “Kyle Busch is a legend in my mind already and just to be on the front row with him is an honor. I have to hand it to all these guys at ThorSport. These guys put a great truck together, and it’s all about communication between us. That’s what built us a good truck and allowed us to go through practice smoothly. Hopefully we can stay up front all race and pull it off.”
Two time Martinsville Truck Series winner Johnny Sauter will start third with his eyes set on another grandfather clock. Sauter was very pleased with his GMS Racing truck post qualifying.
“It’s a good surprise,” Sauter said. “I have to thank everybody at GMS Racing for building a great truck. They kept telling me yesterday that they built me a good truck, and it is. I’ve always struggled in qualifying in here, but it’s rotating good and it shows. I was actually happier about my truck in race runs, so I’m really looking forward to the race.”
Cameron Hayley, Kyle Larson, Daniel Suarez, William Byron, John Hunter Nemechek, Tyler Reddick, and Matt Crafton rounded out the top ten starting positions.
Those who did not qualify for today’s Alpha Energy Solutions 250 are: Natalie Decker, Norm Benning, Austin Wayne Self, Travis Kvapil, Jordan Anderson, and Chris Fontaine.
