Coming off what was not so great a start to the season last month at St. Petersburg where he finished in 21st place after contact, Sebastien Bourdais rallied back to finish eighth-place at Phoenix Raceway. He started the Desert Diamond West Valley Phoenix Grand Prix in 15th position.
On Lap 120 during a caution, he was having radio issues so team gave him the black flag to make him come down pit road to fix issues.
“It was a less than perfect race from my end,” he said. “I made too many mistakes and I feel bad for the guys because they really deserved a better finish than eighth.”
Then on Lap 142, he lost handle of the car trying to get past Juan Pablo Montoya and got into the wall.
“I think we had a position three or four car, but I locked up going into the pit box and I made a mess of it,” he said. “Then a Penske car got me to go around his outside in Turn 3 and 4 after a restart. There was already marbles and I hit the wall. I guess after that it was pretty much salvation and a bonus because it is very rare that you hit the wall and finish the race on an oval.”
Next up for the No. 11 Hydroycut Chevrolet driver is IndyCar test on Wednesday at Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
