Carl Edwards will lead the field to green in tomorrow night’s Duck Commander 500 at Texas Motor Speedway.
Edwards won the pole with a hot lap of (27.748 Seconds, 194.609 MPH).
“I like it here, I really enjoy Texas,” he said. “I have a lot of friends here. This is a fun place to race. The tire, I don’t know what the other guys feel, the tire and downforce package for me lets me feel like I can go into the corner and move around and feel the tire underneath me. Even in qualifying, there were times when I got a little sideways and it slid a little bit and I could recover and that’s really fun as a race car driver. Hopefully the race goes well. We have some practice later. I just cannot thank my guys on this Stanley Tools Camry enough, they are unbelievable.”
Edwards will be joined on the front row by Joey Logano followed by Martin Truex Jr., Chase Elliott, and Ricky Stenhouse Jr.
“It was a good run for us,” Truex Jr. commented. “I guess we’re tied for second, which means we’ll start third. All in all, happy with that. Proud of the guys for bringing a good Bass Pro Shops Camry this weekend and we’ll just see what happens. Feeling good about it. We missed it a little bit from yesterday, I thought we were really good yesterday and the track was a little faster today and moved on us a little bit. I felt like we had a shot at the pole today, but the 19 (Carl Edwards) put a heck of a lap down, so proud for him.”
Denny Hamlin will start sixth, followed by Ryan Blaney, Brad Keselowski, Matt Kenseth, and Austin Dillon rounding out the top ten.
Other notables include: Jimmie Johnson 11th, Kyle Busch 15th, Dale Earnhardt Jr. 16th, Kurt Busch 21st, Kevin Harvick 22nd, Danica Patrick 26th, and Ty Dillon in 30th.
The Cup Series returns to the track this evening for final practice starting at 6:30 P.M. ET.
