Roush Fenway Racing announced on Thursday that they have signed Gray Gaulding to developmental driver program contract. The Colonial Heights, Virginia native will make his NASCAR XFINITY Series debut on August 19 at Bristol Motor Speedway, behind the wheel of the No. 60 Ford Mustang.
“I’m very excited to become a part of Roush Fenway Racing’s Developmental program and I can’t wait to get behind the wheel for my XFINITY Series debut later this year at Bristol,” Gaulding said. “Roush Fenway has proven to be second to none in developing drivers within the NASCAR garage. I think their record speaks for itself. Jack Roush is the most successful owner in XFINITY Series history and it’s a great honor to be able to break into the XFINITY Series in a Roush Fenway Ford Mustang.”
The 18-year-old has made 13 starts in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series starts, with a best finish of fourth-place at Canadian Tire Motorsports Park. He has also made 43 NASCAR K&N Pro Series starts, highlighted by a victory at Phoenix International Raceway in 2013.
“We’re pleased to be able to give Gray the opportunity to cut his teeth in the XFINITY Series this season,” Roush Fenway president Steve Newmark said. “He is a talented young driver and we are happy that we can help play a role in his growth and progression as he continues forward in his NASCAR career.”
RFR added that Gaulding could also possibly run the XFINITY Series race at Richmond in September.
