Kasey Kahne, driver of the No. 5 Farmers Insurance Chevrolet, came into Texas Motor Speedway struggling as he hadn’t finished in the top ten since Las Vegas Motor Speedway earlier this season. Kahne would have a great run, posting his best-finish of the year with an eighth.
During the race Kahne went a lap down early due to an ill-handling car, which he got back via the lucky dog on Lap 56. After that, he battled and fought his way to the top 10, breaking through in the final stages.
“We just battled,” Kahne said. “We got behind, got a lap down early again and we just had to fight back. The team did an awesome job to do that. We had great calls to get the car tightened up; I was so loose that I couldn’t go fast enough for a little while there. There at the end we were actually pretty competitive the last probably 250 laps, like really competitive. We were down a lap a lot of it, but we were really competitive. Once we got back up there I think we were definitely a top 10 car and we finished eighth. It was the best we have done in a long time. It feels nice.”
One of the battles that Kahne had to endure on the track was with Greg Biffle, driver of the No. 16 Ford. Kahne was on the bottom of the track and Biffle was using the high line and wanted to come down but Kahne was there. They bumped each other and Biffle got into the wall, ending his race early. This is Kahne’s second on track altercation that lead to the other driver being wrecked as he made contact with Danica Patrick at Auto Club Speedway, resulting in her making contact with the outside frontstretch wall.
“I just caught Greg to pass him and he kind of entered out, so I thought I was going to go under him,” Kahne said. “Then he started coming down because he wanted the bottom, obviously, and I was like kind of there and hit the brakes and just hit him. I felt really bad because we didn’t really need to do that. I had a hole on entry and then it kind of closed and I should have lifted sooner instead of being that close to him.”
