The usually consistent Kevin Harvick, driver of the No. 4 Jimmy Johns Chevrolet, ended his streak of finishing in the top-five so far this season by finishing 10th in the Duck Commander 500 at Texas Motor Speedway.
The Bakersfield, California naive started 22nd after not advancing past the second round of qualifying on Friday. Even with that starting position, he was able to work his way up and had been running in the top-five before his troubles would start.
On Lap 207 he received a penalty for an uncontrolled tire and speeding on pit road and would have to restart after the caution from the rear.
“We had car conditions,” he said. “I don’t even really know that it’s fair for me to comment on the track, or anything, because it was so radical for us that we just couldn’t even get a read on what we needed to go and what we needed to do; and me speeding on pit road compounded the problem.”
Even with all those issues he was able to get a top 10 finish out of the night but he really never fought back like he usually does.
“We got back up about where we probably were 10th to eighth, somewhere in there; but it was a rough night,” he said.
This is a race Harvick would just like to put behind him as the car was never really what they wanted all weekend.
“It was miserable,” he said with a laugh. “Everything from top to bottom wasn’t good. We just battled the car all weekend and never really got it right. A lot of things that everybody wanted to try that we don’t have to try anymore. So, chalk that one up to experience and we’ll move on to something else and keep trying to get better.”
He will try for better results in the next race the Food City 500 April 17th at Bristol Motor Speedway where in 30 starts he has posted one win and 10 top-fives in his career.
