If there’s a driver most excited about being able to Phoenix International Raceway in the rearview mirror, it’s Carlos Munoz.
The Colombian certainly didn’t have the weekend that he was looking for, crashing twice over the course of the weekend. He crashed during qualifying after he got loose, and then crashed during the race following a mechanical issue.
”Its a weekend to forget,” he said. “I just have to say thank you for the guys that worked so hard yesterday to get the car back together. This is racing. We lose and we win together.”
This weekend’s Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach marks the perfect opportunity for him to rebound as he has never finished outside of the top-nine on the streets of California. He finished third in 2014 for his career podium finish, followed by a ninth place finish last year.
“We are looking for a good result after a hard weekend Phoenix,” he said. “I love Long Beach – it was my first win in Indy Lights and my first podium in (the Verizon) IndyCar (Series). I’m really looking forward to it. I love the track; it’s one of my favorites and I can’t wait to be back.”
With an eighth place finish in the opening race of the year at St. Petersburg, Munoz could very well turn his season back around, or surprise with his first top-five of the year.
