Erik Jones will have the best seat in the house when heat race number one gets underway today for the Fitzgerald Glider Kits 300 at Bristol Motor Speedway.
Jones set quick time during qualifying on Saturday morning with a speed of 125.914 MPH (15.239 Seconds) to earn the pole for heat race number one. Austin Dillon who qualified second will on the pole for heat race number two.
Not only is a trophy on the line today but so is $100,000 in the Dash 4 Cash. Here is how today’s heat races and the Dash 4 Cash will work.
The heat races will determine the starting order for the main event. The heat winner with the best qualifying result will be on the pole for the main event, with the rest of the rows determined by heat finish (Heat 1 finishers on the inside, Heat 2 on the outside). If a driver wrecks in the heat race, the team can work on the car for the remainder of only that heat race. They must then stop and can resume once engines are fired for the main event. No backup cars are allowed.
The top two drivers in each heat are eligible for the Dash 4 Cash. The highest finisher among those four drivers in the main event earns $100,000. If a driver wins two Dash 4 Cash bonuses during the season, the driver is considered as having a win when determining Chase berths.
The driver who starts the heat is the driver of record for the remainder of the event. Driver changes are permitted, pending NASCAR approval, between the heat and the main event, but that would require a driver to start at the rear of the field. That driver would not be eligible for the Dash 4 Cash bonus, and NASCAR also has the option, if a substitute driver is in the winning car, to not award a Chase berth based on that win.
The top ten starters in heat race number one are: Jones, Kyle Larson, Kyle Busch, Justin Allgaier, Brandon Jones, Ross Chastain, Brendan Gaughan, Darrell Wallace Jr., Brennan Poole, and Elliott Sadler.
The top ten starters in heat race number two are: Dillon, Daniel Suarez, Joey Logano, Aric Almirola, Kevin Harvick, Blake Koch, Jeb Burton, Ryan Sieg, and Mario Gosselin,
