In the midst of a new series sponsor and some new faces, there will be a familiar face behind the wheel in the series.
Bryan Cathcart will be returning to the NASCAR Pinty’s Series in 2016, splitting the schedule with Derek Lynch. Lynch, a stock car veteran and the former promoter of Kawartha Speedway, will run the ovals while Cathcart is going to run the road courses.
“It’s going to be feel awesome,” he said at the Motorama Custom Car and Motorsports Show. “This is a great series and I’m in the twilight of my racing career and there’s no other place where I’d like to do some races. I’ve always found the road courses really fun. I was never a road course racer, but the first time I was on Mosport (now known as Canadian Tire Motorsports Park), it was just so much fun.
“Let’s face it – racing is about having fun; it’s not about the money. There’s not much money in it.”
Catchcart ran five races in the first two years of the series being under the NASCAR banner, 2007 and 2008, scoring a best finish of 15th at Riverside International Raceway. He previously competed in the CASCAR Series, making 36 starts with a best finish of 10th at CTMP in 2004.
“I’ve raced in this series for seven or eight years so it’s good to be back,” he said. “I like this series, I like all the guys. I want to do some races before I get too old and this is the place to be.”
