NASCAR has suspended crew chief Nick Harrison for this weekend’s NASCAR XFINITY Series race at Richmond International Raceway, given him a $10,000 fine and placed him on probation until Dec. 31 after an issue in technical inspection last weekend.
Harrison was handed down a P3 penalty infraction at Bristol Motor Speedway for using an improper spoiler assembly and extension.
“The team violated sections 20.4.13 and 20.4.13.1 a, b, c, d of the NASCAR Rule Book — spoiler extensions didn’t conform to NASCAR rules specifications — and was assesed the P3 in accordance with section 12.5.3.4.1 c,” a NASCAR statement said.
Ty Dillon’s No. 3 Chevy was found to be using an improper spoiler extension during the opening-day of tech inspection at Bristol last week.
Dillon went on to finish seventh in the race last Saturday.
There is no word yet on whether the team will appeal the penalty or not.
