Rain put a damper on opening Sprint Cup Series practice Friday Morning at Richmond International Raceway but not before Kevin Harvick set the early mark to beat this weekend.
Harvick, a three time winner at Richmond, was the fastest man in town with a speed of 129.069 MPH (20.919 seconds). Joey Logano, Jimmie Johnson, last week’s Bristol winner Carl Edwards, and Denny Hamlin rounded out the top five.
Brad Keselowski, last Spring’s Richmond winner Kurt Busch, Kasey Kahne, Kyle Busch, and AJ Allmendinger rounded out the top ten.
Other notables include: Matt Kenseth 13th, Dale Earnhardt Jr. 17th, Tony Stewart 18th, Martin Truex Jr. 22nd, Chase Elliott 23rd, and Ryan Blaney 29th.
The opening practice did not go well for everyone as Michael Annett crashed in the early stages of the session.
“It’s unfortunate,” he said. “I just feel like a rookie, it’s my third year in the Cup Series, and to do something like that you feel pretty stupid.”
