With final preparations underway, it’s only a matter of time before the drivers will be hitting the track hoping to have success this season. One of those drivers is Rick Spencer-Walt.
Following a solid season last year, Spencer-Walt will be competing on a full-time basis at Peterborough Speedway in a new ride as over the off-season, Walt Motorsports acquired a car from Dwayne Baker. Notably, it’s the same car that he drove to a fourth place finish in last year’s Autumn Colours Classic.
“Pretty excited about the upcoming season, “he said. “We have the best car we have ever owned and have worked to make sure the car has exactly what it needs to go win races.”
There’s only one goal that he and the Walt Motorsports team have in mind, and that’s the championship.
“It will be a battle until the end I’m sure, but anything but first will be disappointment for us,” he noted.
Walt proved last season that he could compete at the Peterborough, Ontario oval, scoring a pair of feature victories, highlighted by the Chase for the Colours. He also picked up some top-five finishes at Sunset Speedway along the way.
“Looking back on last year, we had a lot of ups and downs but we plan to be a lot more consistent moving forward,” he said.
It’s that reason that he is looking to score top-fives on a weekly basis, knowing that the competition isn’t going to be busy with a bunch of diision stand-outs vying for the same shot at glory.
“The Peterborough Late Model division has a lot of talented veterans with a mix of young talent as well, from Mark Gordon and Dave Morgan to Bryan Sudsbury and ourselves,” Walt commented. “There’s a lot more talent than people realize and hopefully, like us, they decide to travel and show there power at other speedways as well.”
