In the second practice for the Honda Indy Grand Prix of Alabama, the fastest speed was turned in by Takuma Sato, driver of the No. ABC Supply AJ Foyt Racing Honda. He lapped the track with a lap of 1 minute, 7.2157 seconds (123.186 mph).
In second was Sato’s teammate Jack Hawksworth in the No. 41 ABC Supply Honda, followed by James Hinchcliffe, driver of the No. 5 Schmidt Peterson Motorsports Arrow Electronics Honda.
Will Power, driver of the No. 12 Team Penske Verizon Chevrolet, was the fastest Chevrolet in fourth place. Rounding the top-five was Graham Rahal, driver of the No. 15 PennGrade Motor Oil Honda.
Sixth to tenth were as follows: Josef Newgarden, Simon Pagenaud, Juan Pablo Montoya, Scott Dixon and Sebastien Bourdais who had lead the first practice earlier in the day.
During the session, Power got off track as he over shot the corner but returned to the track with three minute remaining, with Bourdais doing the same thing with a minute remaining.
One off the drivers who had continued to get quicker, but still looking for more Speed is Marco Andretti, driver of the No. 27 hhgregg/Snapple Honda.
“We had a problem in the first session,” he said. “Something didn’t go back together right that we tried to change. We don’t have enough tires right now- we wasted a lot of tires this morning with the car not handling. We’re just letting the tires catch up.”
Andretti is hoping to have a good run this weekend after struggling last weekend at Long Beach.
“We were close in St. Petersburg, took a step down in Phoenix and a huge step down in Long Beach,” he said. “Hopefully we bounce back.
Next up on the schedule for the Honda Indy Grand Prix of Alabama is the third and final practice on Saturday April 23th at 12:00-12:45 p.m. EST.
