AFS Racing Car owner Gary Peterson confirmed that the team will field its own car for the 100th running of the Indianapolis 500 next month at Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
“I’m [entered] as AFS Racing and Ganassi is not running my car,” Peterson said in an email to RACER.com. “They can’t do it with a shortage of crew in the series and with the addition of Ford GT sports car program. Chip and Mike [Hull] were so good to me last season and we have a great friendship. But it will be an AFS entry and have a great engineer and acting team manager who have all worked together which will be announced later.”
The car will be driven by Sebastian Saavedra, who has driven the past several years with AFS Racing. It will be a Chevrolet-powered car.
The Colombian has 61 IndyCar starts since 2010 when he made his IndyCar Series debut with Bryan Herta in the 2010 Indianapolis 500. AFS and Saavedra’s first IndyCar Partnership was with Andretti Autosport for the 2012 Indy 500.
The 100th Running of the Indianapolis 500 will be on May 29th.
