The $35,000 the NASCAR Sprint Cup Driver’s Council pooled together to pay the fine that NASCAR issued driver Tony Stewart after his comments made to media regarding issues with teams not tighten all five lug nuts will be donated to Autism Delaware.
“I appreciate the Driver’s Council support, but I didn’t want them to pay the fine,” Stewart said. “We decided as a group to donate the money to charity. Artie is such a good friend to all of us and his foundation does a lot of great work.”
Autism Delaware was founded in 1998 by Artie Kempner, coordinating director, NASCAR on FOX and his wife, Marcy. It has raised more than five million and has served more than 1,000.00 children and adults living with autism.
The Driver’s Council was formed in 2015 and meets with NASCAR to discuss issues from competition to safety. Drivers that comprise the Council are Kyle Busch, Dale Earnhardt Jr., Denny Hamlin, Kevin Harvick, Jimmie Johnson, Brad Keselowski, Kyle Larson, Joey Logano and Stewart. Hamlin will present the check to Kempner at his golf tournament for Drive for Autism on May 12th in Wilmington, Delaware.
