Last Fall’s Talladega winner Joey Logano is picking up where he left off last season.
The Middletown, CT native paced final practice on Friday in preparation for Sunday’s Geico 500 at Talladega SuperSpeedway. Logano set a fast lap of 48.785 seconds (196.290 MPH).
Logano spoke of the importance of setting a fast lap in final practice with the uncertain weather forecast for tomorrow’s qualifying session.
“With the way the weather is looking for tomorrow we wanted to make sure we put a decent lap down,” Logano said. “I mostly worked with the 22. I think the 24 was with us and a handful of others but we were kind of playing it safe. Our car is good. We have good speed. It is always like that as these race tracks. They do a really good job. We will see if we qualify tomorrow and go racing Sunday.”
Ryan Blaney set the second fastest speed of the session followed by Chase Elliott, Danica Patrick, and Brian Scott. Blaney, who finished fourth in last year’s Spring race at Talladega, is confident heading into Sunday’s race.
“Yeah, I feel really good about our Fusion,” Blaney said. “I feel like we are really racey and we an make some really good moves out there. That is really all you can ask for”.
