Jamie McMurray knows how to get the job done at Talladega SuperSpeedway.
The two time Talladega winner paced Friday’s opening practice for Sunday’s Geico 500. McMurray led the way with a fast lap of (47.943 seconds, 199.737 MPH).
Daytona 500 pole sitter Chase Elliott was second followed by Kurt Busch, Danica Patrick, and Trevor Bayne rounded out the top five in the early practice session.
Kevin Harvick, Casey Mears, Joey Logano, Kyle Larson, and Michael McDowell rounded out the top ten.
Notables include: 2003 Talladega Fall race winner Michael Waltrip 12th, Kyle Busch 15th, Austin Dillon 18th, Matt Kenseth 21st, Martin Truex Jr. 22nd, Carl Edwards 23rd, Daytona 500 winner Denny Hamlin 24th, Brad Keselowski 31st, six time Talladega winner Dale Earnhardt Jr. 32nd, and Jimmie Johnson 39th.
