The Southeast Super Truck Series rolled into Greenville-Pickens Speedway in Easley, South Carolina on Saturday April 23. The first two points races and the one non points race have all been won by Anthony Anders.
As the teams and drivers unloaded at the track, it was none other than Anders who topped the first round of practice followed by Jamie Altop, Kevin Leicht, Ricky Bowers, and Mart Nesbitt. As the temperatures went up through out the day, so did the speeds. Mart Nesbitt picked up quite a bit and he set on top of the final practice session, followed by Kyle Benjamin, Kevin Leicht, Tim Lollis, and Ashley Huffman.
As the 20 trucks rolled onto the qualifying grid, it was Anders that once again, collected the pole award. Anders went on to roll a three on the invert dice. This now set up for multi track champion at Greenville, Randy Porter on the top spot to lead the field down to the green flag with NASCAR K&N AND ARCA stand out driver Kyle Benjamin on the outside.
Once the race started it didn’t take long for Anders to work his way to the spot hes been very familiar with all season long, the lead, while Porter fell back to second. Last season’s SEST Series champion Lee Tissot was coming on strong and working his way towards the front. Tissot took several looks on the inside of Porter but was never successful. Tissot began to experience engine troubles around Lap 17, and he then pulled down pit road and parked it for the night. Another strong contender for the night was series veteran Tim Lollis, he also was charging hard towards the front but. Lollis also had mechanical failures and parked just two laps after Tissot.
The first caution came out on Lap 21. This was due to the fourth place contender Kevin Leicht who had reportedly broke a rear end and spun around in turn one and backed it into the outside wall, Leicht climbed out of his truck under his own power, and walked to his pits ending his night with frustration. When the green flag flew high again, Porter immediately went to work, trying everything he could to get around Anders. Mart Nesbitt was now working his way through the field, picking the other drivers off one by one. The second caution came out on Lap 45, Terry Seay spun in turn three.
As the field set up for the restart Porter once again applied heavy pressure on Anders but still couldn’t get around him. Anders pulled away from the field and took the white and checkered flag with ease, he was followed by Randy Porter, Kyle Benjamin, Jamie Altop, and Mart Nesbitt.
