No matter how many things change, some things remain the same and that is remaining true with Sunset Speedway’s Sauble Falls Tent and Trailer Park Limited Late Model division. Defending track champion Taylor Holdaway would take the lead on the opening lap, dominating en route to scoring the victory.
“It was nice to get it and the crew – Chris, Brandon, my dad, everyone put in so much work during the off-season,” Holdaway said.
In time trials, it’d be Nick Goetz setting the quick time with a lap of 14.954 seconds. Notably, though, the time was disallowed as Goetz was disqualified in post-qualifying technical inspection.
As a result, it’d be Gord Shepherd getting the pole for the first feature with a lap of (14.989). Holdaway would start to his outside after posting a lap o 14.989 seconds, followed by past track champion Mike Bentley (15.102), 2015 Sauble Speedway Champion Joshua Stade (15.127) and 2015 Autumn Colours Classic Champion Travis Hallyburton (15.148).

The drop of the green flag would see a battle for the lead between Shepherd and Holdaway as Bentley held down third ahead of Stade. The caution would then fly on lap two, though, as Latimer would go around in turn two. With 33 laps to go, Shepherd led Holdaway, Bentley, Stade, Hathaway, Walters, Travis Hallyburton, Morrow, Cronan, Baker and Maltese.
Holdaway would put the No. 41 Bay Auto and Truck Parts, Holdaway Automotive, Image Factor Motorsports Design and Photography, Wix Filters, Castrol Canada, KartSTART presented by Toyota, Yamaha Motor Canada, Sunshine Super Wash, and Stefko Racing Engines Late Model out front on the restart ahead of Shepherd as Bentley and Stade battled for third. Meanwhile, Maltese would head down pit road with a fuel pick-up problem.
“Obviously, the car was really good through the center of the corner and we had good drive-off,” Holdaway commented post-race. “Gord was good there. We battled side-by-side the first couple of laps and once we were able to break away, I was able to get some momentum and pull away some.”
Holdaway would continue to lead ahead of Shepherd as on lap four, Stade would clear Bentley for third, while Hathaway and Walters battled for fifth. Hathaway would get the spot on lap six, allowing Morrow to get alongside Walters for sixth. Morrow would get by Walters for sixth at lap eight, while Baker ran eighth ahead of Travis Hallyburton and Billy Zardo. Baker would get alongside Walters for seventh at lap nine, completing the pass a lap later.
At the front of the field, Holdaway continued to lead ahead of Shepherd, Stade, Bentley, Hathaway, Morrow, Baker, Walters, Travis Hallybuton, Billy Zardo and Sean Cronan. Mat Box would get alongside Cronan for 11th at lap 12, while Baker got alongside Morrow for sixth at lap 13. Box would get by Cronan on lap 14, while Fumerton ran 13th ahead of Lane Zardo, Inglis, Bourque and Lapcevich as Gresel and Thayne Hallyburton battled for 18th.
Further up the field, Baker would clear Morrow for sixth at lap 17, with Walters in eighth followed by Travis Hallyburton, Billy Zardo, Box, Cronan, Fumerton, Lane Zardo, Inglis and Bourque. Gresel would then get alongside Bourque for 16th at lap 19, however the caution would fly a lap later as Billy Zardo stopped in turn two with a problem. With 15 laps to go, Holdaway led Shepherd, Stade, Bentley, Hathaway, Baker, Morrow, Walters and Travis Hallyburton.
Holdaway would grab the advantage on the restart ahead of Shepherd and Bentley as Stade and Baker battled for fourth. Baker would clear Stade for the spot at lap 24, as Hathaway ran sixth while Morrow and Walters battled for seventh. Hathaway then got alongside Stade for fifth at lap 27, completing the pass a lap later.
