Newfoundland fans will have someone to cheer for this month when the NASCAR Pinty’s Series kicks their season off at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park.
Canada’s Best Racing Team announced Placentia, N.L.’s Josh Collins as driver of the No. 25 for the full 2016 season. Collins became the first Newfoundland & Labradorian driver to race in the series last year when he finished 10th on debut at Riverside International Speedway. He followed that up with a 12th-place finish in his second series start at Kawartha Speedway.
Collins will replace Joey McColm in the No. 25 this season. McColm will move from a full-time driver role to a general manager role, and also become crew chief for Collins as he contests Rookie of the Year honours.
While Collins makes his road course debut at CTMP, he’ll have three veteran road ringer teammates to rely on.
Toronto’s Kevin Poitras will return to the No. 8 for both CTMP races, and the Honda Indy Toronto.
Two-time Pinty’s Series race winner Robin Buck will drive the No. 1 Ford at the three Ontario road course races. Buck last won at Trois-Rivieres in 2011.
Trans-Am driver Mel Shaw from Voorhies, N.J. will bring his more than 40 years of experience to the table when he drives the No. 87 in the three Ontario road course races.
Collins will bring sponsors Dennis Porter Trucking, Edward Collins Contracting, Universal Environmental Inc. and Eastbound International Speedway to the team.
