Mother nature tried to ruin the day but in the end Delaware Speedway came out with the victory as the full event was completed in thrilling style. Day two of the Spring Nationals featured the opening race of the Case ‘N Drum Oil Late Model Triple Crown presented by Havoline, which was won by Andrew Gresel (#81). The 50-lap Ground Masters Super Stock feature event was won by David McCullough (#39), the 35-lap Demar Aggregates Truck Series event was won by Joe Windis (#65), and the V8 Stock 35-lap feature event was won by Paul Fothergill (#33).
The V8 Stocks took to the track for their 35-lap feature event which was won by Paul Fothergill. Steve Arrand (#37) led the field to the green flag but it was short lived as on lap 5 defending series champion Paul Fothergill (#33) took over the top spot. The first caution of the event happened on lap 18 for a spin off of turn 2 by Jordan Morris (#73). Morris then made his way to the pits for a significant adjustment and would return to the race. On the lap 18 restart Fothergill was able to hold off Arrand to maintain the top position as the #93 of Zwygers moved into the top 3. Fothergill was able to open up a significant lead to go on and win the first feature race of the season for the series. Arrand was able to hold on to finish 2nd, Zwygers 3rd, Jeremy Taggart (#11) 4th and Nathan Taback (#46) rounded out the top 5.
The Demar Aggregates Truck Series 35-lap feature race saw Joe Windis (#65) win over Tom Zagorodny (#77) who finished second. Joe Windis started from the pole position and pulled away quickly from Verberne who had a battle with Tom Zagorodny (#77) for the majority of the race. On lap 18 Zagorodny was able to make the pass for 2nd, however Windis had a substantial lead by this point. Windis would go on to lead every lap in the event to score his first win of the season. Zagorodny would finish 2nd, and defending series champion Verberne 3rd.
Due to the rain delay the qualifying session for the Case ‘N Drum Oil Late Model Triple Crown presented by Havoline was moved to after the Truck event, and was changed from a single car time trial, to a 5 minute open qualifying session that saw Jamie Cox (#22) take the top time with a 18.586. This open qualifying format provided a ton of excitement as drivers were fighting for starting position whilst managing other cars on the track and the time remaining in the session.
The Ground Masters Super Stocks took to the track for their 50-lap feature event after qualifying, a heat race, and the Dash for Cash yesterday which saw Darrell Lake taking maximum points for the weekend setting fast time and winning the Dash for Cash. The feature race was won by BLANK (#). Derek McCullough (#38) led the field to the green flag with his brother David McCullough (#39) to his side. David McCullough led lap 1 after a hard fought battle with his brother Derek, and would pull out to almost a straightaway lead as others scrambled for position early on. On lap 14 Trevor Collver (#1) and D.J. Christie (#5) wrecked on the back stretch resulting in heavy damage to both vehicles. The restart saw Branden Verhoeven (#7) alongside David McCullough. McCullough would hold the lead after the restart but Verhoeven stayed with him. The entire field close together and even started to work in a second groove. On lap 22 the caution would fly again as Kathleen Hosang (#16) and Kenny McNicol Jr (#77x) made contact off of turn 4 and came to a rest. Matt Robblee (#51) also collected a little damage, however all cars continued. After the restart McCullough continued to hold top position with Verhoeven continuing to apply pressure. Matt Robblee moved up into the top 3 before a caution came out on lap 32 for a spin in turn 1 by Geoff Chant (#19). On lap 36 McNicol Jr and Derek McCullough spun together off of turn 4. On the restart Robblee was able to pass Verhoeven and would finish in second. After a few more cautions for spins the race would go the distance seeing David McCullough score the Super Stock win. Robblee would finish 2nd, McNicol Jr 3rd, Verhoeven 4th, and Lake would round out the top 5.
Darrell Lake won the weekend points championship for the Ground Masters Super Stocks by a mere 1 point over feature race winner David McCullough.
The opening race of the Case ‘N Drum Oil Late Model Triple Crown presented by Havoline was won by Andrew Gresel who started the race from the rear of the field after having engine issues throughout the day including practice and qualifying. In his return to competition Adam Quarrie (#6) led the field to the green but it was short lived as on lap 5 Cole Powell (#73) took over the top spot. On lap 13 the day ended early for Jaxson Jacobs (#97) who pulled down pit road with what appeared to be engine issues.
