NXS: Erik Jones Leads Ollie’s Bargain Outlet 200; 3 Drivers To Back-Ups

In the first practice for the XFINITY Series at Dover International Speedway, Erik Jones topped the chart with a lap of 22.699 seconds. Jones is looking for his second victory of the season after winning at Bristol earlier this year.

Ty Dillon was second quickest as he looks for his first win since last year at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Notably, this is a Dash for Cash event and if Dillon was to pick up the bonus, he’d be locked into the Chase after winning the bonus at Richmond International Raceway.

Daniel Suarez and Matt Tifft were third and fourth to place all three Joe Gibbs Racing entries in the top-five, while Alex Bowman rounded out the top-five in his first start of the season with JR Motorsports.

Elliott Sadler was sixth, followed by Joey Logano, Brandon Jones, Paul Menard and Justin Allgaier. Unfortunately, Menard is also one of the drivers that’s headed to a back-up car after something broke going into turn three, causing his car to veer up the track into the wall.

“Something broke – it might have been a tire or something,” he said. “I went into turn three, it sat down on the nose and went straight. It was certainly a wake-up call for sure. We’ll roll the back-up out and go from there.”

Jeb Burton and Darrell Wallace Jr. were the other two drivers, both getting into the wall after they got loose.

“I just got really loose,” Burton said. “This place can step out and bite ya. I didn’t listen to my butt as it was telling me to come in; I was going to run one more lap. Just got to learn from it.”

Of the three drivers involved in incidents, only Wallace was able to get a couple laps on track in his back-up car.
