For the Angie List Grand Prix of Indianapolis Graham Rahal, driver of the No. 15 Steak n’ Shake Honda, qualified in third position, but had to start from the ear due to failing post qualifying inspection for being underweight.
“These are the days that build character,” he said. “Our backs were up against a wall for sure.”
The Columbus, Ohio native would battle back hard to score a top-five finish as he drove into fourth position when the checked flags flew to end the race.
“To come out and have results like that is pretty awesome,” he said. “Twenty-fourth to fourth is better than I expected today. With the cold I’ve got, I’m going to sleep well tonight. This one took it all out of me.
“The Steak ‘n Shake boys do a great job for me, great strategy again, topping off on that early yellow, going a little bit long on that stint, getting into that top eight, I think, after one stint it was good. After that we just kind of chucked away.”
Up next will be the 100th running of the Indianapolis 500 on May 29th at Indianapolis Motor Speedway, where the Rahal Letterman Lanigan driver has eight starts with his best finish being third in 2011.
