After posting the fast time in qualifying, Mike Hryniuk backed it up as he’d win the 100-lap Lucas Oil Sportsman Cup Series feature at Flamboro Speedway on Saturday night.
Hyniuk topped the charts with a time of 16.426 in time trials, to beat Chad McGlynn by five hundreths of a second (16.431). Kevin Gallant (16.479) posted the third quickest time ahead of Kevin Allen (16.5) and Tim Tolton (15.35) to set the fast five.
Following the fast five invert, though, it’d be McGlynn started on pole ahead of Gallant, Hyniuk, Tolton, Allen, Bob Merrifield, Doug Cathcart, Josh Wood, Alvin McNicol, Brandt Graham, Donny Beatty, Adam Martin and Scott Laporte.
Chad McGlynn grabbed the early lead at the front of the field as Hryniuk quickly moved up to second spot within the first seven laps ahead of Gallant, Allen, Tolton, Cathcart, McNicol, Wood, Beatty, Graham, Lapote and Martin.
Hryniuk made his move on Lap 13 to take the lead, bringing Gallant through with him to bump McGlynn back to third. The first caution then flew seven laps later for Beatty getting into the turn 3/4 wall following a mechanical issue.
The restart came three laps later with Hryniuk maintaining his advantage at the front of the field ahead of McGlynn, Gallant and Tolton. The quartermark of the event didn’t go as McNicol wanted as he’d pull off the track with a mechanical issue. Meanwhile, Allen ran fifth ahead of Cathcart, Wood, Merrifield, Laporte, Graham and Adam. Graham moved up to ninth with a pass on Laporte at Lap 33.
The second caution flew at the halfway mark as Graham and Merrifield got together while battling for eighth in turn four. The restart came at Lap 54 with Hryniuk maintaining the advantage over McGlynn, Gallant, Tolton, Allen, Cathcart, Wood, Graham, Merrifield, Laporte and Martin.
Unfortunately, Tolton’s strong run came to an end at Lap 66 as he’d pull off the track with a mechanical problem. He’d return to the track at Lap 73, though ended up pulling off once again.
At the front of the field, Hyrniuk continued to lead ahead of McGlynn as Allen got by Gallant for third at Lap 88. Gallant continued to fall back, as Catchcart passed him for fourth with nine laps to go, bringing Wood and Graham through with him.
Mike Hryniuk was the man of the night, though, as he led the rest of the way to score the victory ahead of Chad McGlynn, Kevin Allen, Doug Cathcart, Josh Wood, Brandt Graham, Kevin Gallant, Scott Laporte, Bob Merrifield and Adam Martin.
