Starting on pole, Steve Murdoch didn’t look back as he cruised to victory lane in the season opener for the TQ Lucas Oil Can-Am Midgets at Flamboro Speedway
The action started off by Brandon Zavarella dominating the first heat race, before being passed by Rob Neely with two laps to go for the victory. Darren McLennan finished third, followed by Adam Racine, Ryan Fraser, Chris Holman, Craig Pitchell, Cody Whittan and James Marche.
There was a quick caution in the second heat as Greg Smulder went around in turn one after getting close, if not making contact with Jeff Blackburn. Steve Murdoch led flag-to-flag to pick up the victory ahead of Mack DeMan, Adrian Stahle, Blackburn, Barry Dunn, Darren Dryden, Smulder and Paul Rhodes.
Come feature time, it’d b Murdoch starting on pole ahead of Zavarella, Dunn, Fraser, Stahle, Neely, DeMan, McLennan, Blackburn, Racine, Holman, Dryden, Pitchell, Smulder, Marche, Wittan and Rhodes.
Murdoch pulled out the early lead, leaving the rest of the field to battle amongst each other. The battle for second began to heat up around Lap 8 between Zavarella and DeMan. Though trouble then struck for DeMan as he’d stop in turn four with a problem.
Murdoch got a good restart to maintain the lead, while Neely was able to get by Zavarella for second at Lap 12 ahead of Fraser, McLennan, Blackburn, Dunn, Holman, Racine, Dryden, Pitchell and Smulder.
Racine made the big move on Lap 14, moving up to eighth, bringing Holman through with him. Dunn ran 10th now ahead of Dryden, DeMan, Pitchell and Smulder. DeMan continued his charge to the front, passing Dunn for 10th at Lap 19, while Dryden now ran 12th behind them. DeMan follow it up with a pass by Holman with two laps to go for ninth.
At the front of the field, Steve Murdoch cruised to victory ahead of Rob Neely, Brandon Zavarella, Ryan Fraser, Darren McLennan, Jeff Blackburn, Adam Racine, Mack DeMan, Chris Holman, Darren Dryden, Barry Dun, Craig Pichell, Greg Smulder, Cody Whittan and Paul Rhodes.
