During the Angie’s List Grand Prix of Indianapolis as the green flag flew there was a on track incident between Tony Kanaan, driver of the No. 10 NTT Group Chevrolet, and Sebastien Bourdais, driver of the No. 11 Team Europa Chevrolet.
Kanaan would start the race in the fifth starting position while Bourdias started in the eight position. As the cars went into turn 1 on track, they were going three and four wide. Unfortunate they would make contact with each other.
Kanaan’s car would not be repairable and he wouldn’t even get one lap completed, finishing in the last spot 25th position. “It was a quick and unfortunate end to our day with the NTT Group car,” he said. “It’s a very wide track here at the IMS (Indianapolis Motor Speedway) road course and people were going three- and four-wide. “Scott (Dixon) was trying to give me room and I was trying to do the same with others but it was just a racing incident. I don’t think it was any one person’s fault. It’s just disappointing and I wish we could have still been out there today.”
Bourdais’ car was able to be repaired and he came back out on track and he was able to complete 20 laps before he would have more issues and go off course in turn 2 and stall. He finished in 24th position.
“Obviously it was a disappointing end to the weekend for the Europa-KVSH Racing team especially since we damaged the car,” he said. I got a run outside of Scott (Dixon) and was up against the wall. “There was still reasonable amount of room and I was on my line. From what I saw, ( Kanaan) just got pushed a bit to the left and that was it. Tough luck.”
Next up is the 100th Running of the Indianapolis 500 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway on May 29th.
