BRIGHTON – May 19, 2016 – Wade Purchase is the Campbellford Chrysler Driver of the Week for the week ending May 14, 2016. The Demorestville, Ont. native earned his first win of the season, 371 days following his week two victory in 2015. The win was particularly impressive considering Purchase drove the top lane on route to the victory after starting sixth and being pushed backwards early on.
“It was huge. I watched (Adam) Turner turn 30 beautiful laps right up on the top, so I knew that’s where I had to be. I put it there and it worked,” Purchase explained.
The driver of the Independent Starter & Alternator/Team Remax of Wellington/KD Transmission No.53 is excited to see his hard work over the winter pay dividends so quickly. The team installed a new GM 602 Crate motor as the primary power plant for this season and a new body after deciding the team’s Chevrolet Bel Air look from 2015 was a hindrance in the weight department.
The Crate pulls all the way down the straight stretch. With my built motor, I felt like I lost two drag races every lap. The Crate is definitely the way to go,” Purchase explained. “We have four corners that are all solid and new, so if we finish races we should be there every week.”
Purchase has set a handful of goals to achieve this season, including finishing in the top-three of the championship standings come September.
“I figured that was a pretty achievable goal. I’ve always been hanging around there, I just haven’t been able to pull through at the end,” Purchase reasoned. “If we can get a handful of wins, two or three, then that would be a good year.”
The success won’t come alone, Purchase said. A large part of his success is due to the support of his team which includes his father Mat Purchase, his sister Stephanie Purchase, girlfriend Kali Michael and friends turned crew members Travis Coates and Kevin Rallison. Fellow competitor Brian Cross has also supported Purchase’s efforts.
“You definitely have to have people behind the scenes. Those are the people that make it happen, whether its sponsors or crew guys putting in the long hours. It’s a long season and it takes those people to make it happen,” Purchase said, thanking his support team.
After watching close friend Adam Turner win the Pro Late Model feature a few minutes earlier, the victories for both Turner and Purchase were especially meaningful.
“It was pretty sweet to be able to win one race in the same line right after Adam. He’s like a brother to me and got me in to racing. It just turned out to be one week before (the 10th anniversary) of his brother Justin’s passing. It was a lot bigger than what it felt like initially,” Purchase explained.
Purchase will try to replicate his success and build on the emotional win when the Brighton Automotive Pro Stocks return to action for their third event of the season this Saturday as NOCO Fuels, Mix 97 and Sanderson’s Tire and Automotive present the Southern Ontario Sprints, Pro Late Models, Pro Stocks and Comp 4s. Race time is 7:00pm.
Wade Purchase would like to thank his 2016 sponsors, including Independent Alternator and Starter, Team Remax of Wellington, KD Transmission, TAG, Dino’s Pizza, Milpond Music and Part Source.
