25 years ago, a pair of racing fans took to the center of Varney Speedway (now Full Throttle Motor Speedway) to get married. It all made sense as they met at the track through a mutual friend, Dave Wilson.
“We wanted it to be a wedding everyone would enjoy,” Donna Tolton said. “So I thought of getting married on the speedway where we started our relationship. Tim will say that I picked the place because I knew he would be there.
“Everything was easy to set up all but the minister. We had a hard time getting one of those; we thought it it was not going to work out but I found one. Other the the rain storm after the ceremony it was perfect everyone enjoyed themselves.”
The pair will return to the track this weekend where Tim Tolton will compete behind the wheel of the No. 35 Mini Stock as the pair celebrate their anniversary.
“To have this party there is one of the things I am proud of,” she noted. “I have been to most of the tracks on Ontario and I found FTMS or Varney is the only one really family oriented. We went from being a racing couple to a racing family and that family includes all the people who we have met at the speedway. Tim and I have raced varney for 29 years and our boys Bobby and David grew up around that place and now Bobby and Stephanie are doing the same with their boys . With the support of our family and the fact that it is a family sport, I think it brings it all together.”
With competing in both the mini stock and Lucas Oil Sportsman Cup Series this year, Tim has a busy schedule and Donna always makes sure to be there right beside him, helping him with stuff.
“It is nice to be able to be a part of the team and not just a sideline wife,” she said. “I am not afrade to jump in and get my hands dirty – in fact if I don’t get my hands in there, I dont feel like i have done my job. I get laughed at by some because in one moment you will see me cooking or sewing a patch on a fire suit and in the next you will see me under the car helping change the tranny or motor or whatever needs to be done.
“The best part is I know I have someone in my cheering section at all times and to talk me through a bad race or when I mess up who is not to shy to tell me.”
