Canada’s Best Racing Team announced on Saturday that the NASCAR Pinty’s Series first full-time driver from Newfoundland, Josh Collins, will miss the season opening Clarington 200 at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park. CBRT General Manager Joey McColm will race in his place.
CBRT said that during NASCAR’s pre-race medical check, it was discovered that Collins required further medical tests in order to get the okay to race at CTMP. Canada’s Best Racing Team said that Collins has been working with doctors and medical professionals throughout the week in hope to start the season on time at CTMP, but the driver will be forced to step aside for the first race in order to complete all the medical tests.
Joey McColm practiced and qualified the car on Saturday, and will start Sunday’s race in the 22nd position. McColm has plenty of experience at CTMP, which includes three top-10 finishes.
Collins said he will be back in the No. 25 car for the rest of the season as soon as he receives medical clearance.
