After escaping the late race drama and holding off a strong charge from the competition, Kevin Foisy picked up the victory in the Ontario Legends Series feature at Sunset Speedway.
The night didn’t start off as Jamie Riberdy started, with his car catching fire during the heat race. The safety crew was able to extinguish it quickly, with Riberdy climbing from the car uninjured. Foisy picked up the first heat win ahead of Dave Riopelle, Mike Gettliffe, Terry McCelland, Bill Mason, Nick Ledson, Andrew McFadden, Don Arnott, Rob Black and the 22.
The second heat saw issues, as well, with Bailey Brown ran into mechanical issues with two laps to go. Cole Ledson picked up the win ahead of Robin Jongen, the 88, Cole McFadden, Jacob Sheridan, Parker Traves, the 75, Rob McCall, Fred Jordan and the 66.
Foisy won the third heat ahead of Riopelle, McCelland, Riberdy, Gettliffe, Mason, Andrew McFadden, Don Arnott, the 25 and the 22.
Cole Ledson went for the daily double ahead of Jongen, Sheridan, the 88, Cole McFadden, Traves, the 75, Jordan, Brown, McCall and the 22.
With qualifying complete, it’d be Cole Ledson starting pole ahead of Dave Riopelle, Robin Jongen, the 88, Terry McCelland, Kevin Foisy, Mike Gettliffe, Jacob Sherridan, Cole McFadden, Bill Mason, Parker Traves, Andrew McFadden, the 75, Jamie Riberdy, Don Arnott, the 22, Bailey Brown, Nick Ledson, Rob McCall, Fred Jordan, the 25 and the 66.
The drop of the green flag would see Dave Riopelle grab the early lead ahead of Cole Ledson and the 88 as Foisy battled Jongen for fourth. Foisy took the spot at Lap 3 ahead of Jongen, McCelland, Gettliffe, Sheridan, Cole McFadden, Riberdy, Nick Ledson and Mason. Riberdy was on the move, getting by McFadden to move up to ninth at Lap 5, with Ledson following him through for 10th.
At the front of the field, Cole Ledson tracked down Riopelle for the lead and got alongside at Lap 7, but was unable to complete the pass as he fell back in line behind him. Foisy moved up to third ahead of the 88, Jongen and McCelland. McCelland made the move to get alongside Jongen at Lap 12, completing the pass a lap later. Behind them, Gettliffe and Nick Ledson battled for seventh, with Ledson making the pass by Getliffe, followed by a pass on Jongen to move up sixth.
While there were battles in the back half of the field, the front was also busy with Cole Ledson keeping a close eye on Riopelle. Their battle came to a head on Lap 17, as Ledson made contact with Riopelle, causing both to go for a spin and the caution to fly.
With eight laps to go, Foisy led McCelland, Nick Ledson, Gettliffe, Jongen, Sheridan, Cole McFadden, Mason, Andrew McFadden, Riopelle, the 88, Cole Ledson and Traves.
The first attempt at a restart resulted in a caution as Riopelle went for the spin in turn one.
The second attempt was clean, with Foisy holding serve ahead of the field. Nick Ledson tried to find a way around Foisy high and low, but was unable to as Kevin Foisy picked up the win. Cole Ledson made his way back up to third following a thrilling five laps after the restart, diving left and right through the field. Terry McCelland and Dave Riopelle completed the top-five.
Mike Gettliffe finished sixth, followed by Jacob Sheridan, the 88, Robin Jongen, Bill Mason, Parker Traves, Cole McFadden and Bailey Brown.
