When the Graham Construction Corporation Mini Stocks take to Sunset Speedway, there’s always a driver that everyone has his name on, and that’s Andy Kamrath. He backed up his reputation this past weekend, scoring the victory in the Hoosier Spring Velocity.
The first round of heats would see Warren Paxton, Brandon Crumbie and Kamrath each make a trip to victory lane.
Warren Paxton went for the daily double in the fourth heat ahead of Tommy Robb, Eric Yorke, Cory Young, Dave Crumbie, Samantha Shaw, Robert Toope, Chandler Bos, Peter Wakeling and Wendy Adams.
Terry Woodley won the second heat ahead of Cameron McGlashan, Allard, Johnny Parazadzinki, Thomas Dunn, Steeve Melson, Eric Rainey and Dan Bailey.
Andy Kamrath went for the daily double Gerrit Tiemersma, Jake Watson, Miles Tyson, Charlie Smith, Bob Phinnemore, Brian Wilson and Morgan Robson Jr.
With a full field of cars in the pits, there’d be a last chance race to determine who would qualify, and who’d go home.
It wouldn’t go pretty as Adams went for a spin in turn two, followed by a last lap incident involving Robson Jr. and Adams. Doug Butler won the race ahead of Blair Wickett, Bos, Melson, Wilson, Tolton, Rainey, Bailey, Wakeling and Adams. Toope failed to finish as a result of an issue in the late stages, and therefore missing the main show along with Robson.
With qualifying complete, it’d be Gerrit Tiemersma starting pole ahead of Miles Tyson, Johnny Paradzinski, Brandon Crumbie, Tommy Robb, Terry Woodley, Andy Kamrath, Warren Paxton, Eric Yorke, Chris Allard, Cameron McGlashan, Samantha Shaw, Bob Phinnemore, Jake Watson, Dave Crumbie, Charlie Smith, Cory Young, Thomas Dunn, Doug Butler, Blair Wickett, Steeve Melson, Chandler Bos, Bobby Tolton, Brian Wilson, Eric Rainey, Dan Bailey, Wendy Adams and Peter Wakeling.
The early stages saw a battle for the lead between Tyson and Tiemersma, with Tyson putting the No. 49 UXBRIDGE AUTO WRECKERS, JMX DEMOLITION & ENVIRONMENT, TYSON CONTRACTING, WIX FILTERS AND PERMATEX Mini Stock out front ahead of Tiemersma on Lap 2, as Robb battled Kamrath for third. Kamrath got the spot on Lap 3, with Eric Yorke following him through for fourth a lap later. Robb now fifth, as Brandon Crumbie and Paxton battled for sixth behind him.
At the front of the field, Andy Kamrath continued to make his climb to the front, passing Tiemersma to move into the runner-up spot on Lap 6. The caution then flew two laps later for Shaw going around in turn two. With 27 laps to go, Miles Tyson led Kamrath, Tiemersma, Yorke, Robb, Paxton, Crumbie, Woodley, Allard, Smith, Butler, Paradzinski, Watson and McGlashan.
The restart was all Kamrath needed as he’d put the No. 35 LONDON RECREATIONAL RACING, JASON WITTY RE/MAX, SEATON STRUCTURES, AM ROOFING, BLUE MOUNTAIN HONDA OF COLLINGWOOD, WAKE WORK RACE CLOTHING, IMAGEWRAPS.CA, SUPERCLEAN, CASTROL, BRANDON’S LANDSCAPES, WIRED AND READY ELECTRICAL CONTRACTING, JF KITCHING AND SONS HAULAGE AND GEORGINA AUTO GLASS Honda Civic out front of Tyson, Yorke and Paxton.
Yorke looked to continue his climb to the front, getting alongside Tyson for second at Lap 10. They battled side-by-side till the second caution flew at Lap 11 for Wakeling spinning in turn two. With 24 laps to go, Kamrath led Tyson, Yorke, Paxton, Tiemersma, Robb, Crumbie, Woodley, Allard, Butler, Smith, Watson, Wickett, Paradzinski, McGlashan and Phinnemore. Under caution, Tolton made his way down pit road, done for the event.
Kamrath got a good restart to keep the lead, while Tyson and Yorke battled for second. Yorke grabbed the spot on Lap 12, with Paxton following him through for third a lap later. Behind Tyson, it was Wilson in fifth ahead of Butler as Allard and Crumbie battled for seventh.
Butler continued his climb from the rear of the field, getting by Robb for fifth at Lap 16 before the third caution flew for Adams spinning in turn four. With 19 laps to go, Kamrath led Yorke, Paxton, Tyson, Robb, Butler, Allard, Crumbie, Smith, Wickett, Woodley, Watson and McGlashan. McGlashan didn’t get to restart where he was running, though, as he’d pit before the field took the green flag with a flat tire. He’d return to the track without losing a lap, at the tail of the field.
Kamrath got another good restart ahead of Yorke, Paxton, Tyson, Butler and Robb. Butler’s climb through the field continued on Lap 18 with a pass by Tyson to move up to fourth. Crumbie then got alongside Robb for sixth, completing the pass at Lap 22.
Crumbie was set to continue his climb, getting alongside Tyson for fifth when the fourth caution flew at the halfway point for Wakeling spinning in turn two. Wakeling’s car died in the middle of the corner, with Yorke giving him the tap to send him around. Wakeling was done for the feature, while Yorke had to restart tail of the field. With 10 laps to go, Kamrath led Paxton, Crumbie, Allard, Smith, Robb, Woodley, Wickett, Shaw, Paradzinski, Young, Phinnemore, Dave Crumbie, Dunn, Wilson, Melson, Rainey, Bos, McGlashan, Bailey, Yorke and Watson.
Kamrath got another good restart ahead of Paxton, Butler, Tyson and Crumbie to maintain the lead. Allard would quickly get by Crumbie, getting alongside Tyson for fourth at Lap 26. He would complete the pass a lap later to put himself in the fourth spot. Tyson now ran fourth ahead of Crumbie, Smith and Wickett.
The caution would fly for fifth time at Lap 29 when Shaw and Robb got together with in turn three and four, which included significant contact with the wall for Shaw. Cory Young headed down pit road under yellow, done for the event. With seven laps to go, Kamrath led Paxton, Butler, Allard, Tyson, Crumbie, Smith, Wickett, Woodley, Paradzinski, Phinnemore, Dunn, Yorke, Melson, Wilson, McGlashan, Rainey, Bos, Bailey and Robb.

Brandon Crumbie finished sixth, followed by Charlie Smith, Eric Yorke, Terry Woodley and Blair Wickett.
