BRIGHTON – May 26, 2016 – Following his first career Comp 4 win last Saturday night, Trenton’s Adam Flieler has been named Campbellford Chysler Driver of the Week for the week ending in May 21.
The Brighton Speedway driver has had impressive success over the first three weeks of the season, claiming a pair of runner-up finishes before grabbing the checkered flag last week. Perhaps most remarkable is that Flieler stepped away from the division for two years before returning at the start of 2016.
“It’s been great being back. I was fortunate enough to hit my setup right on the nose and it’s been working good for me,” Flieler explained. “There’s definitely a competitive field up front and it’s going to be hard to beat them the rest of the year, but I think we’ve got what it takes.”
Last season’s win in Stinger action was his first career feature win. He set out to win a feature this season and finish each race in the top-five. Mission accomplished, so far. As a result of the early success, Flieler’s expectations have increased.
I have picked them up a little by myself. I think I’m a fairly strong contender for a championship,” Flieler remarked. “A championship would be an absolute goal and we’re going to try for it. I think we’re close.”
It certainly doesn’t hurt Flieler acquired the 2013 championship car of Tom Vance for this season. He’s received advice from Vance, but the operator for the city of Quinte West Parks Department is really a one-man army with a little bit of help from his two-year-old son Duncan.
“For the most part it’s pretty much my own two hands that do all the wrenching, My fiancé, Samantha, is a huge help as well putting up with me spending so much time in the shop,” Flieler said. “My son, Duncan, he keeps me motivated on the whole thing. He loves going in the garage and poking at the racecar with a wrench. He’s going to be right in to it.”
The support from both of his parents has also been a big part of his success, Flieler said.
“My dad gives me a hand whenever he has spare time,” Flieler explained. “My mother is also a huge part of my racing career. She has stood behind me 110% since day one.”
Like any driver, Flieler’s has a number of dedicated sponsors who have supported his efforts this season. His No.11 carries support this season from Double D Sports Bar & Grill, R&E Tire, ABC Taxi, Larry’s Towing, Fellows Trucking and Apex Graphics.
“All of my sponsors have been a huge help. I wouldn’t be anywhere close to where I am without those guys,” Flieler said.
After his year off, Flieler initially intended to return to the track in a Pro Stock or Canadian Modified, but ultimately decided Comp 4 competition is where he would compete. That may still be the plan down the line.
“When you get in to the big cars, you’re seven days a week dedicated to your car. Maybe when my young lad is a little older and he can really understand what’s going on I’ll intend on moving up,” Flieler said.
For now, Flieler’s focus is on Saturday’s Fan Appreciation Night presented by Dibbits Excavating and 95.5 Hits FM. For more information on the event at Brighton Speedway, visitwww.brightonspeedway.com.
