BRIGHTON, Ont. – May 25, 2016 – Brighton Speedway’s 49th season returns to a rumble on Saturday, May 28 for the first Fan Appreciation night of the season presented by Dibbits Excavating and Classic Hits 95.5 FM. Fans of all ages will have the opportunity to meet their favourite drivers on the track at intermission for autographs, pictures and lots of candies. It’s the Brighton Speedway version of Hallowe’en.
All five Brighton Speedway divisions will be in action for the highly popular night of racing. The Bainer’s OilGARD Canadian Modifieds will compete for 30 laps in the first round of the RONA of Trenton Triple Crown. Race time is 7:00pm and adult admission is just $10.
Saturday’s race also marks the first Brighton Speedway Kids Klub event of the season. Kids Klub members will have the chance to meet their fellow Kids Klub friends before the races in the track courtyard.
The action on the racetrack is heating up at the speedway. In Vanderlaan Building Products Pro Late Model competition, Phil Potts and Steve Baldwin are tied at the top of the championship standings with 505 points and a win each. Charlie Sandercock, Brandon Mowat and Adam Turner are all inside the top-five in the championship standings after finishing in the top-five last Saturday as well.
The Bainer’s OilGARD Canadian Modifieds return to action after a week off from points racing. Belleville’s Derrick Greig won last Saturday’s Dash for Cash while Dan Ferguson and Doug O’Blenis won the first two points races of the season. Andrew Hennessy is the current point leader with a 20-point advantage over Ferguson. Kraig Handley, Greig, and O’Blenis complete the current top-five.
Fans have witnessed three different drivers claim victories in Brighton Speedway Pro Stock competition so far this season. Doug Anderson won the most recent event last Saturday night while Wade Purchase and Justin Ramsay have also gone to victory lane. A highly competitive division means a fourth straight different winner is certainly a possibility. Jonah Mutton sits second in the championship standings behind Ramsay after a trio of strong finishes and is among the top candidates for a one-way trip to victory lane. Purchase, Mike Freeman and Gores Landing native Brandon Murrell complete the current championship top-five.
Adam Flieler’s win last Saturday night handed him the lead in the Bill’s Johns Comp 4 standings. Flieler returned to the Comp 4 division this season for the first time since 2013. He defeated a competitive field that includes Tyler French and Josh Read, who sit second and third in the standings. Rookie Mathew Moore is currently fourth in the standings following his second-place finish while Peter Moore completes the current top-five.
The Quinte Septic Stingers have just one race under their belt on May 14. Rick Phillips won the Super Stinger season opener while Chantel Golden claimed the opener for the Junior Stingers. Both drivers lead the standings in their respective divisions.
