This year’s “retro” look comes from a NAPA Auto Parts delivery truck from 1963. It features a yellow hood with the last black logo before NAPA switched to the world recognized blue and yellow scheme you see today. The logo was originally designed to remind customers that NAPA was nationwide and represented quality with knowledgeable employees, traits that still hold true today.
The lower half of the car features a slick black paint job and the rear panel features script reading “90 Years Strong,” as NAPA AUTO PARTS has been in business for more than 90 years. The National Automotive Parts Association was formed in 1925.
“So this is our new car I hope you like it,” Elliott said. “We are excited about running it here at Darlington. I’m looking forward to it. I think they did a really good job coming up with the paint scheme and I think it’s going to stand out. I’m looking forward to it.”
“We appreciate the support of our throwback program by Chase Elliott and Hendrick Motorsports,” Darlington Raceway President Chip Wile said. “Chase’s special paint scheme for the Bojangles’ Southern 500 is one that fans won’t want to miss on Labor Day weekend. We’re so pleased that the teams, drivers and their partners have recognized the importance of celebrating the history of our sport at Darlington Raceway, one of the most iconic tracks on the circuit.”
