After winning last weekend’s Spring Velocity, Andy Kamrath came back a week later in style and scored his second straight feature victory at Sunset Speedway.
It was his KP Motorsports teammate Warren Paxton starting off the night in victory lane as the past division champion won the first heat. Gerritt Tiemersma was second, followed by Dave Crumbie, Cameron McGlashan, Nic Montanari, Steeve Melson, JP Rosevear and Stefan Woyslaw.
Eric Yorke won the second heat ahead of Kamrath, Jake Watson, Brandon Crumbie, Terry Woodley, Cory Young, Mike Robinson Jr. and Charlie Smith.
Warren Paxton went for the daily double with the Fast Qualifer’s Dash ahead of Kamrath, Yorke, Tiemersma, Watson, Brandon Crumbie, Woodley, Montanari, Young, McGlashan, Dave Crumbie and Melson.
The feature saw Brandon Crumbie grab the early advantage behind the wheel of the No. 68 Highland Auto Glass, Amsoil Synthetics and California Dave’s Mustang ahead of his teammate Dave Crumbie. Andy Kamrath made his move early, though, taking over the second spot on Lap 3, bringing Warren Paxton through with him to bump Dave back to fourth as Eric Yorke and Cameron McGlashan battled for fifth.
Kamrath’s climb to the front was complete on Lap 5 as he put the No. 35 LONDON RECREATIONAL RACING, JASON WITTY RE/MAX, SEATON STRUCTURES, AM ROOFING, BLUE MOUNTAIN HONDA OF COLLINGWOOD, WAKE WORK RACE CLOTHING, IMAGEWRAPS.CA, SUPERCLEAN, CASTROL, BRANDON’S LANDSCAPES, WIRED AND READY ELECTRICAL CONTRACTING, JF KITCHING AND SONS HAULAGE AND GEORGINA AUTO GLASS Honda Civic out front.
Brandon Crumbie ran second ahead of Paxton, Dave Crumbie, Yorke and McGlashan, Yorke took over the fourth spot on Lap 7 with a pass on Dave, as Terry Woodley got by McGlashan to move up to sixth. Paxton got alongside Brandon for second at Lap 8, completing the pass a lap later. Yorke continued to run fourth ahead of Dave, Terry Woodley and Gerritt Tiemersma.
Yorke continued his climb, getting alongside Dave Crumbie for third at Lap 11, completing the pass a lap later. Behind them, Woodley moved up to fifth on Lap 13, bringing Tiemersma through for sixth. Crumbie now ran seventh ahead of Nic Montanari and Jake Watson as Charlie Smith battled McGlashan for 10th. Smith got the spot on Lap 17 ahead of McGlashan, Bob Phinnemore, Cory Young, Steeve Melson, Stefan Woyslaw and JP Rosevaar. Smith continued his climb, getting alongside Watson for ninth, completing the pass as the checkered flag flew.
At the front of the field, it was Andy Kamrath picking up the win ahead of Warren Paxton, Eric Yorke, Brandon Crumbie and Terry Woodley. Gerritt Tiemersma was set for a sixth place finish, but spun around on the last lap. As a result, he’d be scored as the last car on the lead lap in 13th.
