For the historic 100th Running of the Indianapolis 500 at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Charlie Kimball, driver of the No. 42 Tresiba Chevrolet battles to get a top-five finish.
The Chip Ganassi driver had qualified for the race in the 16th starting position. During one of the crashes that happen in the race, he would hit a piece of debris and would need to pit to fix the car.
“I hit a really big piece of debris,” he said. “It actually got lodged in the suspension in one of the earlier accidents, so we finished with a backup front wing on the car and a hole in the floor. “We came in multiple times to get all the debris out of the sidepod.”
The Camarillo, California native would over come all of that to finish the race in fifth when the checkered flags flew.
“Well, we went through quite a lot with the 42 car,” he said. “The Novo Nordisk Team and Chip Ganassi Racing never gave up. I’m really proud of these guy. They kept fighting at the end.”
The race was won by Alexander Rossi, driver of the No. 98 NAPA Autopart Honda.
“I don’t know how I did it frankly; I don’t know how the 98 (Rossi) made it to the finish,” said Kimball. “The Hondas were a little back on mileage all day, so we’ll learn form that. I think we’ll be better moving forward.”
Next up will be the Chevrolet Dual in Detroit at The Raceway at Belle Isle Park.
